Proposal to evaluate bcachefs as the root filesystem, as an alternative to the current btrfs-on-LUKS. Michiel Leenaars (NLnet) considers bcachefs superior.

Points for the evaluation:

  • Maturity/stability in the pinned kernel and nixpkgs support.
  • Interaction with LUKS + Secure Boot + TPM2 PCR7 auto-unlock (the proven boot chain).
  • Snapshots/rollback and integration with the comin update and recovery flow.
  • Migration path and risk versus the proven btrfs setup.

Not a 0.1.1 fix; research for a later release (e.g. 0.2.0).

Tested, written and integrated by a human; the code is AI-assisted.
